Firefighter Charles Betram was killed in a building collaspe at the Marston Building on Hanover street in October 1866, he was the first firefighter to die in the line of duty since the department went to a paid department.

Brother Rochester was killed when the tire of H&L#1 got stuck in the railroad tracks while he was at the driver seat. He was thrown from the rig and was killed.

April 17, 1869 box 3 was struck for a building fire at the Cooperage Shop at 14 McClellan Alley. This 3 story brick building had a large Chimney which fell killing the three members.

A fire broke out at the Felgner Tobacco Company at 88 South street on November 20, 1870. Firefighter Hayes was killed as a result of a wall collaspe.

December 19, 1883 while operating at a warehouse fire, Firefighter Joseph V. Dougherty was operating on H&L 1 when an exterior wall collapsed. Firefighter Dougherty died on Christmas Day from his injuries.

While extending an attack line up the aerial of truck 2, Firefighter Halloran was at the 3rd floor when a smoke explosion caused him to loose his grip and he fell to his death.

November 12, 1885 the Burrough Brothers Warehouse at 92 Camden street was ablaze. Firefighters Grund,Keer,Ryan and Captain Marston were all killed as they and 3 other firefighters tried to advance hose lines up truck 2's aerial ladder when the rig became unstable and and turned over, The ladder struck the building next store throwing the firefighters off the ladder.

During a fire at the 5 story James D. Bakery. Capt Scnulte and his crew were advancing a line in the rear alley when part of the rear wall fell killing Capt Scnulte.

Chief Hennick died on February 1, 1893 from the injuries suffered from a wall collapse at the James D. Bakery fire on August 4, 1887 . Captain William Scnulte was killed the day of the fire.

July 19, 1898 Steam engine 13 and Hose wagon 7 collided at the intersection of Mosher st and Druid Hill ave. Killing all the horses and throwing firemen every where. Firefighter Braden was killed.
