Safety and Health Meeting

December 20, 2007

Ward Filter: 

  • The Department is no longer interested in the Ward Filter:  A new system called “No Smoke” is being looked at.
  • Problems with Squad 54 Ward Filter.

 C.P.A.T. 

  • The F.A. is waiting for grant money for additional equipment.  The Fire Academy has received some of the equipment for the test.

 Medic Units 

  • The Fire Academy will begin a training program for the new style medic units.

Accidents:

  • The Department is visiting fire houses for an Accident Prevention Program.

Station Repairs: 

  • All repair cost must be submitted to Board of Estimates.
  • Repairs to Truck 23 quarters.
  • Rodent problems in fire houses.
  • Looking into monies for cleaning supplies.

TB Testing:      

  • Looking into new procedures.

 Haz-Mat Trailers

  • Training needs to be done – possibly at Battalion Level.

Fire Academy:     

  • Training building needs to be rehabbed.
  • Problems with Draeger mask free flowing during training.

T/O gear

  • A grant has been issued to purchase new turnout gear for the entire department.

Helmets:

  • New eye protection will be looked into.

Apparatus: 

  • Four new pumpers on order.  May be in by March. 
  • Nine new medics.
  • The compartment bolts on Truck 15 have been checked and repairs have been done as needed.

New Business:

  • Howard Bollinger is recovering well.
  • How will computers be installed into BC-1 and BC-4 cars?  They may be installed into a new car.
  • Apparatus and all vehicles need to be “hooked up” to a charging system for the new computers.  Some vehicles may need to be fitted without a charging system.
  • The Department will look into vacant building “marking system”.
  • E-mail the Fire Department Shop with repairs.
